Spot lighting or continuous lighting? Your design options

When designing your LED stainless steel stair railing, you have full control over the lighting effect and the design. We offer a range of concepts that blend seamlessly into your architecture:

1. Spot lighting (LED spots/pucks)
Here, individual, high-performance LED spots are integrated flush with the underside of the handrail. This variant creates targeted beams of light and structured pools of light on the steps. This produces an exclusive, slightly dramatic interplay of light and shadow, which is ideal for highlighting architectural features.

2. Continuous lighting (e.g. LUNORA® light strip)
A continuous LED light strip is the best choice for maximum and uniform illumination. The light is strongly diffused through a satin-finished diffuser, so that no individual light points are visible. The result is a soft, continuous and completely shadow-free line of light that ensures maximum comfort and orientation.

Customisable light colours and control:
Tailor the ambience precisely to your space. Choose between a cosy warm white (2700 K) for living areas and wooden staircases, or a modern neutral white (4000 K) for offices and minimalist concrete finishes. Furthermore, our systems can be easily dimmed using the appropriate power supplies and integrated into modern smart home systems.

Step-by-step: Installing the handrail is this simple

Thanks to modular and well-designed components, the installation of our LED handrails can be carried out efficiently by both experienced DIY enthusiasts and professional metalworkers. Always refer to the enclosed technical data sheets during installation.

1. Taking measurements and preparation: Plan the exact position of the handrail and mark out the drill holes for the wall brackets (supports). Take note of where the power supply comes out of the wall so that you can position the relevant support with the cable grommet correctly.
2. Fixing the wall brackets: Drill the holes and secure the handrail brackets firmly to the wall using suitable fixing materials (dowels/screws or heavy-duty anchors). Feed the on-site supply cable (coming from the 24V transformer) through the designated wall bracket.
3. Fitting the handrail tube: Place the stainless steel tube onto the brackets and screw it in place. Ensure the connection is absolutely secure and wobble-free, as the handrail must withstand enormous tensile loads.
4. Integrate the LED system: Lay the LED strips in the groove or fit the LED spotlights. Connect the system to the supply cable using the appropriate connectors, concealed inside the tube.
5. Commissioning and testing: Before fitting the end caps and cover plates permanently, test that the lighting is working correctly. Important safety note: The final connection of the 24V transformer to the 230V domestic mains supply must only be carried out by a qualified electrical contractor!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about LED stainless steel handrails

The choice of stainless steel depends on the location of use. V2A (1.4301) is the standard for dry indoor areas (e.g. stairwells, corridors). For outdoor use, damp areas or regions with high humidity (as well as near the coast or around swimming pools), we strongly recommend V4A (1.4404). Thanks to an additional molybdenum content, V4A is extremely resistant to corrosion, chlorides and acids.

Our LED handrails operate at a safe 24V DC low voltage. The power (wattage) of the required transformer depends on the total length of the LED strips. Calculate the power of the LED strip per metre (e.g. 13.2 W/m) multiplied by the number of running metres, and add a power reserve of 15 to 20 per cent to be on the safe side. If you wish to dim your system, make sure you specifically choose a dimmable power supply (e.g. PWM, DALI or Triac).

You may generally carry out the installation of the handrail components and the connection of the 24V low-voltage cables (after the transformer) yourself. Important: Connecting the 24V power supply unit to the house’s standard 230V mains supply is subject to strict safety regulations and, for legal and insurance reasons, must only be carried out by a certified electrician.

Stainless steel is extremely easy to maintain. A soft, damp microfibre cloth is sufficient for regular cleaning. For light soiling or fingerprints, we recommend a special stainless steel care spray. You must avoid abrasive cleaning products, steel wool or chlorine-based cleaners, as these can destroy the protective passive layer of the stainless steel or scratch the matt finish. When cleaning the PMMA light diffusers, wipe them with only light pressure and plain water to avoid scratching the plastic.
