Support pins & connecting pins: The interface for your handrail

The support pin (often referred to as a connecting pin in technical jargon) is the crucial adapter between the baluster and the handrail bracket. It determines not only the stability but also the installation method of your balustrade.

In this category, you’ll find a wide selection of stainless steel pins for every application: from screw-in DIY solutions with threads to professional weld-on pins for a seamless, invisible connection.

Installation methods: welding or screwing?

Before choosing the design, the method of fixing is crucial. We distinguish between two main groups:

1. Support pins for welding (for professionals)

For a particularly elegant, ‘cast-in-one-piece’ look, metalworkers rely on welded joints. These posts have no thread at the joints, but instead a smooth shaft made of raw stainless steel.

  • Welded on both sides: The pin is welded at the bottom to the post (or round plate) and at the top to the bracket. Maximum stability, no visible welds.
  • Combi pins (1x for welding / 1x threaded): A hybrid solution. Example: An M8 thread at the bottom for screwing into the post, and a smooth end at the top for welding the bracket (or vice versa).

2. Threaded support pins (for screwing)

Ideal for quick assembly and flexible interchangeability. These connecting pins feature metric threads (usually M6 or M8).

  • External thread (AG): For screwing directly into posts with an internal thread.
  • Internal thread (IG): For screwing onto stud bolts or threaded rods.
  • Double thread: Variants with ‘1x external & 1x internal thread’ often act as adaptors between different components.

Shapes & Functions: Which pin do you need?

Once the fixing method has been decided, the structural situation determines the shape of the pin:

  • Straight pins (standard): The classic connection for horizontal handrails on balconies or galleries.
  • Hinged pins (adjustable): Indispensable for stair railings. The integrated hinge allows the bracket to be adjusted precisely to the pitch of the stairs (available in both round and square versions).
  • Offset & curved pins: When the handrail is not to be positioned centrally above the post. Variants such as ‘2x curved’ or ‘135° curved’ allow for lateral offset or neat corner solutions.
  • Designer pins (conical & square): For modern architecture. Conical pins have a more delicate appearance, whilst square pins fit perfectly with square-tube systems.
  • Pins for bending: Special pins with a tapered section, allowing the angle of inclination to be individually adjusted on site.

Material tip: V2A or V4A?

Our weld-on and threaded pins are available in two grades of material. For indoor use, opt for the cost-effective V2A (AISI 304) stainless steel. For outdoor use, particularly near the coast or in swimming pool areas, please choose our highly corrosion-resistant V4A (AISI 316) connecting pins.
