How does spot LED lighting in the handrail work?

Unlike continuous light strips (as in our LUNORA® system), spot lighting utilises individual, high-performance LED spotlights. These are recessed directly into the underside of the handrail tube at precisely calculated intervals. The result is a clean, flush-mounted appearance with no protruding edges. The light is projected downwards in a conical pattern through special lenses within the spot. This creates a structured rhythm of light and shadow on the staircase, making the edges of the individual steps clearly visible to the eye without dazzling pedestrians.

Technical details and premium workmanship

Our LED handrails are designed for professional use and impress with their exceptional build quality. Whether for the DIY enthusiast or the professional metalworker – the system is well thought out:

• High-quality stainless steel (V2A & V4A): Choose between V2A (1.4301) for sheltered indoor use and V4A (1.4404) for maximum corrosion resistance outdoors (e.g. near the coast or in swimming pool areas). The surface comes as standard with an elegant matt finish (240-grit).
• Concealed cabling: A major advantage of this system is the completely concealed electrical wiring. The cables for the individual 12V or 24V spotlights run securely inside the handrail tube. The electricity is routed invisibly into the wall and to the transformer via specially milled wall brackets with cable feed-throughs.
• Flush-mounted LED pucks: The spotlights fit exactly flush with the curve of the tube (usually Ø 42.4 mm). This provides no target for vandalism, makes cleaning easier and ensures a flawless feel when running a hand along the surface.
• Safe low voltage: The system operates using safe 12V or 24V technology. The appropriate LED power supplies (transformers) can be easily concealed in a flush-mounted box, in the control cabinet or within the suspended ceiling.

Customised lighting ambience for every project

Not all light is the same. Depending on the location and the desired atmosphere, you can adjust the characteristics of your spot-mounted handrail lighting:

• Warm white (approx. 2700K – 3000K): Creates a cosy, inviting atmosphere. Perfect for private living spaces, wooden staircases and catering areas.
• Neutral white (approx. 4000K): Provides a clear, modern light. Ideal for office buildings, stairwells in blocks of flats, hospitals and public facilities where contrast needs to be maximised.
• Dimmability: When used with compatible controllers, the LED spotlights can be integrated into modern smart home systems (DALI, KNX, ZigBee) and dimmed continuously.

The lighting of escape routes and stairwells is subject to strict standards. A stainless steel handrail fitted with LED spotlights plays a key role in meeting the requirements of the Workplace Safety Guidelines (ASR) and the standards for accessible building design (DIN 18040).
